Gillian Rolton Memorial Alumnus Award

Nellandra Henry’s journey with Pony Club began at Perth Horse and Pony Club when she was just eight years old, and continued until she reached the age of 21 – the maximum age for members at the time. During her Pony Club years, Nellandra earned her certificates, competed for her club, and proudly represented Western Australia at the National Championships in Eventing.

At the age of 18, Nellandra began coaching, and today she is a highly respected Level 2 NCAS Coach, Coach Educator, and Mentor. Her contributions to the equestrian community in WA are extensive, not only as a competitor in EA Showjumping events across Australia but also as a coach with a gift for making lessons enjoyable and encouraging. Nellandra’s empathy and sense of humour help even the most nervous riders build the confidence to push themselves, ensuring they leave lessons excited to return.

With a passion for showjumping, Nellandra has shared her knowledge across rural and urban Pony Clubs throughout WA, often serving as a presenter at the State Coaching School. Her expertise has been instrumental in countless clinics, forums, committees, and rallies, all aimed at developing riders’ skills and deepening their love for the sport.

Nellandra’s connection to Pony Club spans over 40 years, and she continues to give back as much joy as she received as a young rider. Her early achievements, such as competing in novelties at the Perth Royal Show and winning a demonstration race in York, where she was presented the winner’s cup by Gillian Rolton, are fond memories. From representing WA at Pony Club Nationals as a rider to coaching the WA Showjumping team at the 2023 PCA Nationals, Nellandra’s story is one of dedication and inspiration.

A much-loved and respected member of the Pony Club community, Nellandra’s resilience shone through when bushfires devastated her home and horse facilities. Even in the face of such loss, she continued to support others, rebuild, and maintain her coaching and mentoring. Her generous heart, wealth of knowledge, and commitment to the Pony Club ethos have made her a vital part of WA’s equestrian landscape.

For Nellandra Henry, the Pony Club motto, “A life with horses starts here,” couldn’t be more fitting.
