This week’s Pony Of The Week is Rain.
Rain is a 13.3hh, 21-year-old paint pony from Brighton and Southern Midlands Pony Club, Pony Club Tasmania, and she is very special to Phoebe.
Phoebe bought Rain in October 2023. She was originally meant to be her mum’s pony, but at the time, Phoebe was working through a knock to her confidence.
“I jumped on and she gave me unlimited confidence that has me where I am today.”
Rain has become the kind of allrounder many riders dream of. She safely takes riders around cross country courses, showjumping rounds, dressage tests and even onto the games grid.
“Rain is the type of horse that is willing to go above and beyond for any rider that sits on her back!”
Since coming into Phoebe’s life, Rain has helped her achieve a long list of firsts.
“Rain took me around my first ODE, first official 80cm round and more. Rain was the first horse I ever got qualified for a state comp.”
But Rain has not just looked after Phoebe. She has also safely carried Phoebe’s younger sister, who was 10 at the time, around multiple ODEs, dressage tests and showjumping rounds.
She has also helped two riders from Phoebe’s club qualify for State Games, and will take Phoebe herself to State Games in 2026.
At 21, Rain is still thriving and still showing how much she enjoys her job.
“Rain is the type of pony I’m always smiling with. She’s the pony I go to when I’m feeling down and if I’m in a rough patch with my riding, she will always be there.”
Phoebe hopes there are still plenty more big moments ahead, including State Dressage and Games Championships in 2027.
“Rain may be 21, but she has proven to us multiple times she is willing to keep going for a few more years.”
Safe, willing, experienced and kind, Rain is exactly the sort of pony who helps riders believe in themselves.
“I know a lot of people around me could agree she is truly a special pony and deserves everything.”
