Stockman’s Challenge

Stockman’s Challenge is an individual equestrian competition designed to enhance a rider’s balance and skills, benefiting various other disciplines like mounted games, polocrosse, jumping, and tentpegging.

How It Works

It involves navigating an obstacle course that includes ramps, small jumps, gates, and tasks like picking up and carrying objects.

Riders score points for successfully completing each obstacle, and the highest point score determines the winner.

In some states, such as Queensland, the Stockman’s Challenge also features a Dry Work pattern, which includes spins, sliding stops, and roll-backs, as well as a cattle work phase similar to campdrafting. This aspect of the competition pays homage to the traditional skills of stockmen and women, testing a horse’s ability to control cattle, just as it would in the bush.

What Opportunities Do I Have?

Participating in Stockman’s Challenge offers Pony Club® members the chance to develop their riding abilities and improve their horse’s responsiveness to various distractions. This discipline is an excellent way to prepare for and excel in other equestrian sports.

In states where the Dry Work and cattle work phases are included, riders gain unique experiences that celebrate and preserve the heritage of stockmen and women. Success in Stockman’s Challenge can lead to greater confidence and competence in handling horses across multiple scenarios and events.
