Navigation Ride

A Navigation Ride, or Nav Ride, is a team-based competition where groups of two or three riders navigate a predetermined course by following a list of instructions.

Teams start at staggered intervals and must complete tasks and answer questions at various checkpoints along the way. Unlike a race, Navigation Rides are timed events with both minimum and maximum time limits, and teams can be penalised for finishing outside these limits.

How It Works

Teams use clues to find their way and are scored based on the accuracy of their answers to checkpoint questions.

The winners are determined by the highest number of correct answers and adherence to the time constraints. In the event of a tie in points, the team with the best time within the allowed limits is declared the winner.

For organisers, the course length can vary, and it must be thoroughly checked for hazards. Accurate timing involves measuring the track and considering factors like terrain and the need for teams to stop and solve clues. The time allowed typically includes a mix of walking, trotting, and halting to complete tasks. Competitive events might have stricter time constraints compared to casual rides.
