This week’s PCA Horse of the Week is Phoenix.
Phoenix is a 15.2hh Heritage Stock Horse and the much-loved partner of Hannah from Salt Ash Pony Club Inc, Pony Club NSW.Hannah has had Phoenix for nearly two years, and in that time they’ve shared plenty of fun and memorable experiences together.
“We have done lots of fun things together like camps at Dungog and Tumbarumba, and competitions like eventing at Denman and show jumping at Singleton. We also go to Zone 25 Jamborees and ride at our home club, Salt Ash Pony Club.”
Phoenix is a versatile horse who enjoys a bit of everything, especially when it comes to speed and jumping.
“Phoenix LOVES jumping and going really fast! He gets super excited when he gets to run, and you can tell he really enjoys it. He was bred for chasing cows, but now he does a bit of everything. He always tries his best and never gives up.”
At home, Phoenix’s personality shines through just as much as his performance.“Phoenix is like a big puppy dog because he LOVES cuddles and attention. If you stand near him, he will try to get a pat! His favourite thing is going on trail rides where he can explore. He is always calm and fun to ride.”
Wherever he goes, Phoenix makes an impression.
“Everyone who meets Phoenix wants to say hi because he is so friendly. He gets lots of hugs and just stands there enjoying it. I feel really lucky to have him.”
Recently, Phoenix has faced a new challenge.
“Phoenix got a bad eye infection and had to have one of his eyes removed. It was really sad, but he has been very brave.”
For now, Hannah and Phoenix are taking things slowly and adjusting together.“Now we are taking things slowly and figuring out what he can do next. We have been going on trail rides and doin light work in the paddock.”
Through it all, Phoenix remains the same much-loved horse.
“Phoenix is still the same sweet and gentle horse, and I love him so much.”
From busy competition days to quiet rides at home, Phoenix continues to be a special part of Hannah’s Pony Club journey.
