Social media is a fantastic way to share the joy of Pony Club — from competition highlights to training wins, community moments and club achievements. But with this comes a responsibility to use these platforms in a way that reflects the values of Pony Club Australia.
Why it matters
Pony Club is built on respect, inclusion and integrity. These values apply just as much online as they do in person. Whether you’re posting on behalf of a club or sharing your own experiences as a member, you are part of the broader Pony Club community and represent it with every post, tag, comment and story.
Both the Member Protection Policy and the Code of Conduct outline standards of behaviour that apply on social media where there is a Pony Club connection — and breaches may result in disciplinary action.
Social Media Dos and Don’ts
DO:
✔ Celebrate your club, team and horse in a positive way
✔ Treat others with respect in comments, messages and posts
✔ Ask permission before posting photos/videos of others, especially children
✔ Use Pony Club logos and branding appropriately and with permission
✔ Speak up or report behaviour that may breach our values or policies
DON’T:
✖ Bully, harass or intimidate others online — even in a “private” chat
✖ Post content that is offensive, sexually suggestive, discriminatory or violent
✖ Share or spread rumours, ridicule others, or engage in online arguments
✖ Make public comments that damage the reputation of Pony Club or its people
✖ Use social media as a platform for grievances or personal attacks
Who does this apply to?
Everyone involved in Pony Club — including:
- Riders and parents
- Coaches and officials
- Volunteers and zone or club administrators
- Committee members and team staff
- Spectators, where bound by conditions of entry
If you’re participating in an activity, wearing a Pony Club uniform, tagging your club or commenting on a Pony Club event — the Code of Conduct and Member Protection Policy apply.
What happens if there’s a breach?
Minor concerns can often be resolved at club level through education and discussion.
More serious breaches involving abuse, bullying, harassment, or bringing Pony Club into disrepute may be referred to Pony Club Australia and managed under the Complaints, Disputes & Discipline Policy.
In some cases, Sport Integrity Australia may be involved (e.g. matters relating to discrimination or child safeguarding).
If you’re unsure or need to raise a concern, you can:
- Contact your club or state office, or
- Contact Suanne Waugh, Pony Club Australia’s National Integrity Manager: integrity@ponyclubaustralia.com.au / 0424 067 045
Let’s keep it positive
Social media should reflect the best of what Pony Club stands for: fun, friendship, sportsmanship and learning. Whether you’re posting from a paddock or a podium, remember you’re part of something bigger — and that how we behave online shapes the culture of our sport.
