After months of thrilling qualifiers across the country, the National Pony Racing Series reaches its exciting conclusion this Saturday at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Nineteen Pony Club riders from across Australia will line up in the Small and Large Pony categories, having earned their place through one of 12 qualifying races held across six states — New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. Together, they’ve been part of a field of around 120 young riders, aged 9 to 15, who have competed on real racetracks in genuine racing silks.
Now in its second season, the National Pony Racing Series is a dynamic partnership between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers, designed to introduce young equestrians to the many pathways available in the thoroughbred racing industry. Alongside the thrill of racing, the series places a strong focus on horse health, skill development, and career awareness.
The 2024/2025 series has been supported by some of the biggest names in racing, with each pony and rider pair proudly sponsored by industry leaders including Arrowfield Stud, Godolphin, Ciaron Maher Racing, Chris Waller Racing, Magic Millions, Inglis, Yulong Stud, Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, and many more.
Riders have travelled from far and wide — some journeying over 2,000km — to represent their states and clubs at this national final. It’s been a huge effort from families, clubs, and supporters alike.
Whether they’ve broken in their own pony, come from a racing background, or are dreaming of a future career in the industry, each finalist brings their own unique story and dedication to the track. We wish them all the best as they line up for a moment they’ll never forget.
