Announcements, Career Pathways

Twelve-year-old Katie Diamond from Oxenford Pony Club in Queensland is preparing to race at the National Pony Racing Series Final at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday, just a short 20km trip from home—but a huge milestone in her Pony Club journey.

Katie and her pony Gamble, a 10-year-old, 13.1hh gelding, placed fourth in the Large Pony Category at the Queensland State Qualifier, proudly representing Woppitt Bloodstock. Gamble is a big fan of both racing and trail rides, and his easy-going nature has made him a key part of Katie’s riding journey.

A Pony Club member for the past 18 months, Katie says the best part is:

“Building friendships and learning new skills.”

When asked who’s been the biggest influence on her Pony Club journey so far, Katie gave a sweet and simple answer:

“My pony.”

The National Pony Racing Series, a joint initiative between Pony Club Australia and Thoroughbred Industry Careers, gives young riders the chance to build confidence, explore equine career paths, and race on real tracks across the country.

Katie’s favourite parts of pony racing include:

“Making new friends, the experience, going for a nice gallop with Gamble, and spending time with my mum!”

And that support from home is key—Katie says:

“Mum is driving Gamble and me everywhere.”

So what is Katie most looking forward to at the national final?

“Knowing that I was able to make it this far with Gamble.”

We’re cheering Katie and Gamble on as they prepare for a special moment on home turf—good luck, and enjoy every stride!
