Announcements

Pony Club Australia is delighted to announce the finalists for the Best Achievement by a Rider aged 18–25, proudly sponsored by Lara Tweedie Equestrian.

This award recognises young adult members who have shown exceptional commitment to Pony Club, both as riders and leaders, while balancing study, work, and life outside of horses. These finalists have made a significant impact within their clubs and zones, excelling in competition and generously giving back through coaching, mentoring, and volunteering.

The winner will be announced at the Ranvet 2025 Pony Club Australia National Championships Annual Awards & Presentation Dinner, held on the evening of Saturday 4 October at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre.

Meet the Finalists

Indi Smith, 22 – Moonyoonooka Horse & Pony Club (WA)

Indi has been a member of Moonyoonooka Horse & Pony Club since the age of seven and is known for her quiet confidence, positivity, and immaculate presentation. She participates in rallies as both a rider and coach, consistently setting an example for others.
Her contribution extends beyond the arena: Indi actively mentors younger riders, encouraging them to step up to state-level competitions. This year, she supported a new rider through her first State Dressage Championships, providing guidance that made the experience enjoyable and achievable.
She has recently completed her gear checking accreditation, volunteered at EA and PCWA combined showjumping events, and will step into the role of Coach/Rally Coordinator at her club in 2025. Despite living with scoliosis, Indi continues to train, compete, and coach with determination, never letting physical challenges hold her back. Her resilience, leadership, and encouragement make her an inspiring role model.

Kate Duignan, 22 – Mornington Peninsula Pony Club (VIC)

Kate has been a continuous member of Mornington Peninsula Pony Club since 2011. From an early age, she demonstrated leadership, joining the Junior Committee in 2014 and serving as President for six years. In this role, she oversaw key initiatives including the popular Mini Mornington Horse Trials, which gave first-time competitors a friendly, welcoming entry into eventing.
Balancing university studies and work in a racing stable, Kate continues to ride and compete at a high level. She has achieved multiple dressage series wins on her young horse, represented her zone at state dressage, and been a key member of state-level games and flat teams. Beyond riding, she has achieved her C* certificate, is working toward her B certificate, and recently completed her gear checking accreditation.
Kate is highly regarded for her organisational skills, her ability to support coaches and DCs, and her commitment to creating inclusive, fun programs for younger members. She was awarded the Pony Club Award of Merit in 2022 and continues to be a strong advocate for Pony Club’s role in building skills, friendships, and community.

Madeleine Manton, 25 – Woodend Pony Club (VIC)

Madeleine’s story is one of resilience, leadership, and determination. A member of Woodend Pony Club since 2005, she has taken on leadership roles as club secretary, zone representative, deputy chief instructor (dressage specialist), and vice president of Central Zone. She is passionate about supporting small clubs, ensuring they remain active and included in zone activities.
As a rider, Madeleine competes successfully across dressage and eventing. In 2025, she achieved top-10 and top-5 placings at the Victorian State Dressage and Horse Trials Championships, qualified for Nationals, and was selected to represent Victoria in Dressage and Formal Gymkhana. She also represented Pony Club Australia internationally in 2025, leading the team on the China Exchange.
Madeleine’s journey with her horses reflects her perseverance—transforming her palomino Mercedes from a traumatised pony into a state-level competitor, and personally breaking in and producing her young warmblood, Cuddles. Alongside her NCAS Level 1 coaching accreditation, she brings knowledge, energy, and vision to every role she takes on. She embodies the true Pony Club spirit of “never giving up.”

Darcy Wade, 25 – Stratford Pony Club (VIC)

Darcy has been a member of Stratford Pony Club since 2007 and is recognised as a role model within his club, zone, and state. A talented rider, Darcy has represented Victoria at five Nationals and achieved consistent success in A Grade showjumping, including winning the PCV State A Grade Showjumping Championship in 2025. He has also represented Australia internationally in Tetrathlon.
Equally impressive is his dedication to developing others. Darcy is an accredited NCAS Level 1 coach, gear checker, EA course builder, and judge. He volunteers widely, managing zone teams, building showjumping courses, coaching tetrathlon riders, and even running clinics for parents to help them understand showjumping. He also serves as Vice President of Sale Showjumping Club, helping run World Cup and Grand Prix events.
Known for his generosity and willingness to help—whether saddling ponies, backing floats, or flipping sausages on the BBQ—Darcy is admired as much for his kindness as for his achievements. His commitment to Pony Club and his contribution to the wider equestrian community are exceptional.

Congratulations to Our Finalists

Pony Club Australia warmly congratulates Indi, Kate, Madeleine, and Darcy on being named finalists for this award. Their passion, leadership, and achievements represent the very best of Pony Club.

We thank Lara Tweedie Equestrian for proudly sponsoring the Best Achievement by a Rider aged 18–25 Award, and look forward to announcing the winner at the 2025 National Championships Awards & Presentation Dinner.
