The Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) Virtual Jumping Competition provides Pony Club Australia members with the opportunity to represent their country in an international equitation-based jumping competition.
Riders film and submit their rounds, which are judged alongside Pony Club competitors from around the world. It offers a practical pathway to international competition while riding at home.
What is Equitation Jumping?
Unlike traditional showjumping, equitation classes focus on the rider rather than just the result.
Judging considers:
- Rider position and balance
- Effectiveness and subtlety of aids
- Rhythm and consistency throughout the round
- Overall harmony between horse and rider
The emphasis is on correct, thoughtful riding — a reflection of strong Pony Club foundations.
The International Competition
The PCIA Virtual Showjumping Competition brings together riders from Pony Club organisations across the globe, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong and beyond.
Pony Club Australia selects combinations to compete across a range of classes, typically progressing from introductory levels such as trot poles through to higher jumping heights.
Rounds are filmed during a designated period and submitted for international judging, with results compiled across all participating countries.
Why It Matters
This format highlights the qualities that Pony Club develops in riders from the beginning:
- Balance, position and feel
- Effective communication with the horse
- Consistency and attention to detail
- Confidence in a competition environment
Because the focus is on equitation, success is not defined by speed or height alone, but by the quality of the riding.
A Different Way to Compete Internationally
Virtual showjumping offers riders the chance to be part of an international team without the demands of travel, while still performing to a global standard.
It’s an opportunity to represent Pony Club Australia, refine riding skills, and be part of the wider Pony Club community on the world stage.
