National Pony Racing Series

The National Pony Racing Series is a thrilling, fast-paced competition where young riders experience the excitement of live racing in a safe, controlled environment. Riders compete in state-based qualifiers, with top performers advancing to the Grand Final. The series not only tests riding skills, balance, and fitness but also introduces young riders to potential career pathways in the thoroughbred industry.

Who Can Participate?

The series is open to Pony Club Australia® members aged 9 to 15 years, with races divided into two categories:

  • Small Category – Younger riders on smaller ponies
  • Large Category – Older riders on larger ponies

This structure ensures fair and competitive racing for all participants.

How the Series Works

Riders begin by participating in Jump Start Days, followed by Training Days to develop racing skills. Each state then holds a State Qualifying Race Day, where the top performers qualify for the Grand Final.

The final consists of two championship races:

  • Pony Race 1 – Small Category
  • Pony Race 2 – Large Category

Why Participate?

  • Skill Development – Improve balance, control, fitness, and racing techniques
  • Exciting Competition – Experience the thrill of live racing
  • Camaraderie – Join a community of young riders sharing a passion for speed and skill
  • Career Pathways – Explore thoroughbred industry opportunities and equestrian careers

Industry Support & Sponsorship

The National Pony Racing Series is proudly supported by Thoroughbred Industry Careers (TIC) and leading figures in Australian Racing. Riders wear sponsored racing colours, backed by renowned racing stables and industry leaders, creating a unique connection between grassroots Pony Club® riders and the professional racing world.

Looking Ahead

More than just a competition, the National Pony Racing Series promotes thoroughbred welfare, post-racing career opportunities, and industry pathways. It provides young riders with an opportunity to develop skills, gain experience, and ignite a lifelong passion for horses and racing.
