Meet our team

Matt Helmers

CEO

Matt is a community sport advocate passionate about creating opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. With over 10 years of executive experience leading sporting organisations, he has served as CEO at both national (Skate Australia, 2007-2013) and state levels (Equestrian Queensland, 2014-2018). He has also led community sport workforces within the Australian Sports Commission (2014) and the City of Gold Coast (2021-2023). Matt’s board experience includes a tenure with QSport (2015-2018). He understands the importance of delivering value to members within a federated sporting structure and demonstrating relevance and advocacy at all levels.

Monil Shah

Sports Development Officer

Monil joined PCA in 2020 with a Master’s in Sports Management and a strong interest in grassroots sports development. He is passionate about youth development, increasing participation, and community sports engagement. Monil has experience designing, developing, and managing sports and recreation events for children and young adults, as well as in sports administration, development, and sponsorship. He is currently helping to develop PCA’s new Participation Strategy and manages the PCA member database.

Sally Wiseman

Participation and Development Manager

Sally joined the PCA team in 2021, bringing over 20 years of senior leadership experience in large, consumer-facing organisations, including roles in retail, travel, sporting, and government sectors. She was the campaign manager for the Gold Coast 2008 Commonwealth Games and holds a Bachelor of Business degree, currently pursuing her MBA at Griffith University. Sally’s passion for horses began in 1984 at Mudgeeraba Pony Club in Queensland. She is a PCA NCAS coach and Chief Instructor at Mudgeeraba Pony Club. Sally is dedicated to encouraging children from all backgrounds to enjoy equestrian sports through Pony Club® .
Michelle Newham

Member Services Officer

Michelle joined PCA in 2021, bringing a background in customer service and event management from the retail equine and racing industries. She is an PCA Level 1 coach and life member of Londonderry Pony Club. Michelle has extensive experience as a mounted games coach and managed the NSW Mounted Games team for seven years. Her four children have successfully competed at state, national, and international levels. Michelle is passionate about Pony Club® and its values, emphasising skill development and the opportunities it provides for members.
Suanne Waugh

Integrity Manager

Suanne joined PCA in 2022, transitioning from a career as a Health Information Manager to the sports industry through an AFL SportsReady traineeship. She has over 20 years of experience with Pony Club Victoria and a brief stint as a sports consultant before joining PCA. Suanne is an avid netball player and coach, with extensive volunteer experience in various sports. She brings a comprehensive understanding of how sport functions from the club to the national level.

Emma Le Grand

Marketing and Communications Manager

Emma joined PCA in 2024 with a diverse background in journalism, marketing, and communications. She has experience in media relations, copywriting, content development, branding, and social media marketing, having worked for organisations such as Grampians Health and Ambulance Victoria. Emma’s journey with Pony Club® began when her youngest daughter joined, leading to her involvement as a club committee member and obtaining her PCA National Preliminary Coaching Accreditation. Emma was a joint recipient of the inaugural Pony Club Australia® Sustainability Champion Award in 2021.
