PCA’s board structure.

Guiding Pony Club Australia® with Experience and Integrity

Pony Club Australia® operates as a Company Limited by Guarantee, governed by a skills-based board.

Our board comprises eight independent directors, with five elected by Members and three appointed for their specific skills. These directors are essential in ensuring PCA meets its goals, contributing their expertise to the oversight, management, fundraising, and operational aspects of the organisation.

Meet Our Board

Heather Disher

Chair

Heather Disher brings extensive experience as a Vice President, Business Leader, Director, and Consultant, having worked with start-ups, SMEs, and corporates to create sustainable operations, superior customer communication, and high growth. With global expertise in Governance, Operational Development, Communication, Digital Transformation, Strategic Development, and Growth, Heather’s leadership has been instrumental since she joined the board in 2019 and became Chair in 2020. Her early involvement in Beveridge Pony Club instilled in her a passion for riding, teamwork, and community.

Jo Morgan
Jo Morgan is a senior marketing and finance professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Holding a Master of Applied Finance, she has held senior executive roles across blue-chip, national, and boutique firms. Jo’s expertise spans strategic business and marketing planning, brand management, media liaison, and digital content. A member of Arcadia Pony Club NSW for nearly a decade, Jo has been key in member recruitment and digital engagement. Elected to the board in 2021, she is committed to enhancing member satisfaction and the long-term growth of Pony Club® .
Carole-Anne Hodges
Carole-Anne Hodges brings a wealth of experience in the business and financial sectors, alongside a strong commitment to Pony Club® . A Quality Assurance ISO 9002 Auditor and past recipient of the Rotary Pride of Workmanship Award, Carole was named Sports NSW Community Sport Administrator of the Year and PCA Volunteer of the Year in 2017. With over 40 years in finance and administration, Carole currently runs her own bookkeeping business. She has been an active member and instructor in Zone 9, NSW Pony Clubs for over 20 years and was elected to the board in 2021.
Dr. Kate Fenner

Dr. Kate Fenner is a Lecturer in Equine Science at the University of Queensland and Director of Kandoo Equine. She holds an Honours degree in Equine Science and a PhD in Horse Behaviour, Training, and Welfare. Kate’s expertise includes horse behaviour, the horse-human relationship, and ethics in training. Recognized for her innovative online teaching resources, Kate also serves as Treasurer and Trustee with the International Society for Equitation Science. She was appointed to the board in 2022, bringing significant academic and industry connections.

Nick Hassett

Nick Hassett has extensive involvement in the horse industry as a thoroughbred horse owner, racing club board member, and former Pony Club President. With 30 years of experience advising on strategy and governance in the banking, energy, and telecommunications sectors, Nick’s roles have included leading major projects and digital transformations. A company director for 28 years, he holds qualifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia. Nick joined the board in 2022.

Tonia Murtagh
Tonia Murtagh’s lifelong connection with Pony Club® spans over 45 years, starting as a grassroots member. She has served as Vice President of Pony Club Queensland and has been involved in sponsorship, grievance management, and event organization at the state level. Her experience includes roles as Zone President and Treasurer. Tonia, a national representative on the PCA National Safety Committee, was elected to the board in 2022.
Marylou Hodges

Marylou Hodges began her equestrian journey at Holbrook Pony Club in 1967. With a passion for horses and riding, she has dedicated herself to mentoring young people in agriculture and equine fields. Marylou’s extensive committee and voluntary experience, coupled with her practical and empathetic approach, make her a valuable asset. Elected to the board in 2024, she is committed to representing and supporting PCA members.

Alison Cairns
Alison Cairns is a Partner at Ernst & Young, leading the Education Industry Practice in Australia and New Zealand. Her involvement with Pony Club® spans New Zealand, the UK, and Australia, reflecting her passion for inclusion, friendship, and quality education. Alison aims to ensure Pony Club® continues to deliver quality experiences and was appointed to the board in 2024.

Our Patron

Dr Andrew McLean

We are honoured to have Dr. Andrew McLean as the Patron of Pony Club Australia® .

Dr. McLean is a distinguished figure in equitation science and the founder of Equitation Science International. He has revolutionised our understanding of horse behavior and training through evidence-based methods that prioritise the welfare and well-being of both horses and riders. With a career spanning several decades, Dr. McLean’s contributions to the field have had a global impact, promoting humane and effective equestrian practices. His alignment with Pony Club Australia®’s core values of education, safety, and horse welfare makes him an invaluable advocate for our mission. As our Patron, Dr. McLean supports our commitment to nurturing the next generation of riders and upholding the principles of integrity and excellence in the equestrian community.
