The Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) Quiz Exchange brings together Pony Club members from around the world to test their knowledge of horsemanship, Pony Club and equestrian life.
Held in both in-person and virtual formats, the exchange gives riders the opportunity to represent Australia in a truly global competition — one that rewards knowledge, teamwork and practical understanding of horses.
What is Quiz?
Quiz is a Pony Club discipline where members test their horse knowledge through written questions, identification tasks, games and teamwork challenges.
Competitions typically include a mix of:
- Written theory questions based on Pony Club standards
- Identification phases (gear, feeds, anatomy and more)
- Team-based classroom rounds with both written and oral questions
- Practical challenges such as bandaging or feed preparation
- Games that test speed, memory and communication
It’s fast-paced, collaborative and, importantly, accessible — no horse required.
Why Quiz Matters
Quiz sits at the heart of what Pony Club is about: developing knowledgeable, capable horsepeople.
It helps members:
- Build confidence in horse care, welfare and management
- Prepare for Pony Club certificates (E through to A)
- Develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills
- Learn in a way that is engaging, practical and social
It also creates opportunities for members who may not be focused on mounted competition, ensuring Pony Club remains inclusive and accessible to all.
The International Experience
The International Quiz Exchange takes this learning to a global stage.
Depending on the host year, the exchange may be delivered:
- In person, combining competition with travel and cultural experiences
- Virtually, connecting teams from around the world in an online competition format
In both formats, riders compete as a team while also building connections with Pony Club members from other countries.
2025 PCIA Virtual Quiz
In 2025, the exchange was hosted by Canadian Pony Club in a virtual format, with teams competing from across multiple time zones.
The Pony Club Australia team placed fifth overall, demonstrating strong knowledge, teamwork and Pony Club spirit throughout the competition.

Congratulations to Canadian Pony Club on taking out the win, and thank you to the host nation for delivering a successful international event.
More Than a Competition
While the Quiz Exchange is competitive, its impact goes well beyond results.
Riders come away with:
- A deeper understanding of horses and horsemanship
- Confidence in applying their knowledge under pressure
- Strong friendships within the international Pony Club community
- A broader perspective on how Pony Club operates around the world
It’s a different way to represent Australia — one that reflects the full depth of what Pony Club develops, not just in the saddle.
