The International Tetrathlon Exchange is one of Pony Club’s most dynamic global opportunities, bringing together riders from around the world to compete across four disciplines while experiencing Pony Club in different countries.
Hosted annually by a rotating nation, the exchange combines high-level competition with cultural exchange, challenging riders to perform across multiple disciplines while adapting to new environments.
What is Tetrathlon?
Tetrathlon is a unique Pony Club sport made up of four phases:
- Running
- Swimming
- Laser pistol shooting
- Riding (showjumping)
It tests not only riding ability, but also fitness, focus and adaptability.
At international level, riders compete on unfamiliar horses, placing a strong emphasis on balance, feel and horsemanship — core Pony Club skills that underpin success across all disciplines.
Why Tetrathlon Matters
Tetrathlon develops well-rounded athletes and horsepeople.
Riders are challenged to:
- Perform across multiple disciplines, not just riding
- Manage pressure and transition between phases
- Adapt quickly to unfamiliar horses and competition environments
- Build resilience, independence and problem-solving skills
It is one of the clearest examples of Pony Club’s ability to develop capable, adaptable riders both in and out of the saddle.
