Musical Rides

Musical rides
Musical rides, or riding to music is based on dressage, but is done with a team of four riders and usually involves dressing in costume to suit the theme of the ride.
They are a lot of fun for the riders and spectators but involve plenty of practice to get timing right. Teams train with a coach who helps work out the test and manoeuvres to impress the judges. Riders learn how to turn in unison, split and return to formation, spin like a wheel, cross from corner to corner alternating riders and more.
Teams can do this for fun, to qualify for State Championships (some States) or to entertain at festivals and shows. Musical rides at big events can involve 20 or more riders at a time.
