The Pony Club Australia Mounted Games National Championships at Woodlands Pony Club in Greenvale, Victoria, delivered an unforgettable weekend of high-speed action, skill, and camaraderie.
Junior and senior riders from across Australia gathered for thrilling competition, each vying for top honors and the chance to represent Australia in the upcoming Pony Club International Alliance (PCIA) International Mounted Games Exchange in the UK.
On the Saturday, the juniors battled it out for the prestigious Prince Philip Cup Trophy, named in honor of H.R.H Prince Philip’s vision of inclusive competition for young riders. After a spirited day of racing, Pony Club Victoria claimed victory, followed by Pony Club WA in second place, and Pony Club NSW securing third. Tasmania and the Northern Territory teams showcased their tenacity, rounding out an exhilarating day with impressive performances.
The Sunday saw senior riders take the field, competing for the Allan Hession Memorial Trophy. With outstanding teamwork and determination, Western Australia emerged as champions, followed by New South Wales in second, and Tasmania in third. Victoria displayed resilience and skill, placing fourth.
Pony Club Australia CEO, Matt Helmers, praised the riders for their dedication and sportsmanship: “This event captured the essence of Pony Club—courage, athleticism, and an unbreakable bond between rider and pony. It was amazing to see riders adapt, work together, and push their limits, all while fostering a supportive, competitive spirit.”
The Mounted Games highlighted the Pony Club’s core values of teamwork, resilience, and inclusivity, with riders competing on loan ponies and showing that success in the arena comes from skill and preparation, not just access to top-tier horses.
Congratulations to all competitors on a spectacular weekend—Australia’s young riders truly put on a show to remember!
