Best Achievement by a Rider Aged 18 – 25 Years
Sharne has been a dedicated and active member of Londonderry Pony Club in Sydney for the past 12-18 months, though her involvement in Pony Club extends over two decades.
With more than 20 years of Pony Club experience, Sharne has excelled at the international level in both Dressage and Quiz competitions. The 2024 PCIA Quiz Challenge marks her fourth time representing Australia in Quiz and her second time serving as team captain.
Voted captain of the Australian Quiz Team by her peers, Sharne’s leadership skills have been consistently recognized and valued. She first captained the PCIA Australian Quiz Team during the virtual competition in 2023 and led the team again during their 2024 competition in Kentucky. Sharne’s role as captain was more than just a title; she took her responsibilities seriously, organizing regular Quiz practices and preparing her team for success. Her professionalism, dedication, and commitment to her teammates ensured that they were well-prepared for the competitions, both virtual and in person.
Sharne’s passion for the Quiz discipline is clear not only in her competitive success but also in her efforts to promote the discipline and the Pony Club Australia movement. She has written articles for publications such as Equestrian Life, raising awareness of the value of Quiz and the broader Pony Club experience.
Beyond her international achievements, Sharne is an invaluable member of her local club and the broader Pony Club community. She is always the first to offer assistance when needed, whether it’s helping fellow members, officials, or club personnel. Her thoughtfulness extends to every aspect of her involvement—during the Kentucky trip, she ensured that hosts of the places the team visited received personal gifts and handwritten cards. Her generosity also led her to donate one of her official PCIA Quiz tops to the team’s non-traveling reserve rider, showcasing her inclusive and selfless nature.
Sharne’s contributions go beyond Pony Club. Raised in the Thoroughbred industry and armed with a double degree in Agricultural Science from Sydney University, Sharne now works as a nutrition consultant at Ranvet, furthering her impact within the equine industry. Her knowledge, experience, and dedication make her a role model to everyone she encounters.
