Coach of the Year

Dan Foster stands out for his exceptional ability to coach riders of all ages and skill levels, from grassroots led riders to elite international competitors. While Dan is a versatile coach across multiple disciplines, his true passion lies in promoting and expanding the sport of Mounted Games throughout Australia.

A committed advocate for the PCA Syllabus of Instruction, Dan actively encourages riders to pursue certification, providing valuable assistance in their coaching journeys. He is dedicated to ongoing professional development, regularly attending coaching clinics and updating his skills through online learning and first aid training to ensure he meets essential requirements.

Dan’s impact on the Pony Club community in Western Australia is profound, having coached at 90% of the region’s clubs. His track record includes leading multiple zone and state-winning teams, along with achieving five National titles in both junior and senior Mounted Games age groups. In 2023, he proudly coached the Australian International Mounted Games Team to a runner-up victory and is set to represent Australia at the 2024 International Mounted Games Exchange in Canada this September. Additionally, Dan has been invited by Pony Club USA to coach games in three different states ahead of their championship.

Since relocating to Victoria, Dan has seamlessly integrated into the local Pony Club community as the PCV state coach for Mounted Games, coaching both the Development and Senior teams. He has attended numerous club rallies, coached Kay Irving Games teams, and regularly supports the Victorian state squads. His commitment extends beyond coaching; he volunteered his time at Central Zone Games, assisting with the musical ride and providing commentary for the games, and attended the Victorian State Games Championships to support the riders and coaches he has mentored.

Beyond Mounted Games, Dan excels in show jumping and has a strong passion for the tetrathlon discipline. Having joined Pony Club at the age of five, he has dedicated his life to the organization, earning a reputation as a knowledgeable and respected coach. Despite his impressive accolades, Dan continues to drive the sport forward, motivated by his love for Pony Club rather than monetary gain.

Dan’s vibrant personality and encouraging nature inspire riders to seek more coaching from him. He has played a crucial role in growing the Mounted Games discipline in Western Australia and is now doing the same in Victoria, all while honouring the legacy of ‘Miss K’ by sharing her passion for the Kay Irving Games and musical rides throughout the state.
